Donna M. Smith Chairs the Board of Directors. She has been a member of the Board since 1972. She is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus and a long time resident of River Falls. Donna is the proud mother of five daughters: Patti, Sandy, Polly, Stephie, and Mary Grace.


Fred Benson has served on the Board of Directors since 1994. Fred lives in River Falls with his wife Yvonne. He has been a life-long resident of the River Falls area, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Fred is also the owner and operator of Lunds Hardware, a community business since 1873. Fred also keeps busy with five stepchildren and seven grandchildren.


Patti Smith Neir has been a member of the Board since 1990. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Patti worked at the bank while attending college in River Falls. Recently she retired from Xerox Corporation, where she worked since 1978, retiring as an Account Manager for document supplies. Patti, her husband Fran, and daughter Olivia reside in the Twin Cities area.


Sandy Smith Wurm has served as a Director of the First National Bank of River Falls since 1991. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. In the early 1970’s Sandy worked at First National. In the later 70’s, she worked at Northwestern Bank in St. Paul. Sandy is an active member of numerous organizations. She currently serves on the Board of the River Falls Foundation, the Courage Center, and the Kinnickinic Falls Drug and Alcohol Abuse Center. Sandy, her husband Mike, and son Christian reside in the Twin Cities area. She also has a daughter, Melissa.


Roy Lund has served on the Board of Directors since 1996. He began a home building business in 1962 which has grown and now involves his entire family. Lund Builders is family owned and operated. In 1972, Roy was one of the co-founders of Rottlund Homes. He served as the company’s President until 1992. Besides leadership positions in local and state home builders’ associations, Roy was elected to serve as National Vice President of NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) in 1996 and 1997. He continues to serve on its Board in Washington D.C. Roy and his wife Thora reside in River Falls.


Tom Palmer is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the First National Bank of River Falls. He joined the Bank and the Board in 1998. Tom’s nearly 30 years in banking includes 10 years with Norwest of St. Paul and 15 years as President of Franklin Bancorp, a Minneapolis community bank holding company. Tom’s local involvement includes President-Elect of the River Falls Rotary Club, Board Member of the River Falls and Hudson YMCA, and a Board Member of the University of Wisconsin Foundation. Tom has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. Tom and his wife RaeAnn, reside in River Falls and have two sons.


Virgil Nylander joined the Board of Directors in 2000. Virgil received his B.S. and M.S. from Colorado State University and his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He recently retired as Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, where he began his career in 1969. He is active in numerous organizations and is a member of the River Falls Board of Appeals. Virgil and his wife Gayle are active residents of River Falls. They have one daughter.


Joe Boles began serving on the Board of Directors in the summer of 2007. Joe grew up in River Falls, graduating from River Falls High School. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in history and business from UW-River Falls. In 1981 he earned his law degree from William Mitchell in St. Paul, MN. Joe is currently with the law firm of Rodli, Beskar, Boles, Krueger and Pletcher in river Falls. He is very active in the community including UW-River Falls Business Advisory Board, the Pierce and St. Croix County Free Clinic Board and is Chairman of the Kinnic Falls Alcohol Abuse Halfway House. Joe and his wife Della reside in River Falls. They have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
